We realized this week how important each tiny part of us can be. Our oldest broke his little toe playing football in the back yard. What was originally considered a minor injury quickly took over most of his concentration and time. We began the weekend with a trip to the ER, where his two smallest toes were taped together and he was given a special shoe to wear since swelling prevented him from
wearing his sneakers. Then, mid-week he went back to the doctor, was given a splint and told to use crutches. A referral was then made to an orthopedist, who decided that the best course of action would be to cast the whole foot so that our son could ditch the crutches and gain a little of his freedom back. He couldn't walk without some support, but he hated the crutches. So, now he's wearing a bright green cast (a tribute to his beloved Green Bay Packers) and enjoying life a little more. Though the cast may seem like overkill, it's turned out to be a very good thing for our active boy. Who would have thought that a little toe could cause so much hoopla? So that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. (1 Corinthians 12:25-26)
